Marilyn is a successful
business woman. She has a background in accounting and financial
management and is President of MSB Enterprise Consultants. In October
2002, she registered in our Beauty and the Bitch course because
despite her success, she felt that something was missing. Her primary
objective for participating in our course was to gain direction
and focus on where to take her business and career.
What she discovered about herself as a result of
the interviewing process surprised, amazed, and delighted her. She
says she knew that humor had always been an important part of her
life. But she was completely unaware that the intentional creation
of humor is actually essential in her life. She discovered that
humor is her personal vehicle for self-expression and having fun.
She discovered a couple of ways to be intentional about creating
humor:
- By creating an Erma Bombeck style stand-up comedy
routine for senior citizens.
- By expressing herself creatively and humorously
through writing and art.
Following the course, Marilyn jumped wholeheartedly
into the game of "getting what she wants". She is a clown
collector, and she creates watercolor paintings of clowns. She decided
to take the next step and actually become a clown. She signed up
for clown school, dubbing herself "Pickles the Clown".
When she "graduated", she participated in her first clown
event at the Santa Ana Zoo in February 2003.
She joined a writers group, where she shares her
stories with other writers and she is getting great feedback about
her work. She is expanding her artistic subject matter to include
painting landscapes in oil. She is considering developing an alternate
stream of income by selling her artwork.
Marilyn completely inspires us with her willingness
to play the game. She is learning that it is her responsibility
to put joy into her life, rather than "waiting" for it
to show up. Through her comedy, art, and writing, she is exploring
being more open and related, and she is learning to trust others
to support her. She continues to get coaching in this area.
When she is talking about her writing and comedy,
Marilyn's eyes sparkle and she looks twenty years younger. "I
am passionate about seeing the humor in life and looking at the
glass as half filled," she told us recently.
Marilyn's voyage of self-discovery is just beginning.
By focusing on what she wants, her creativity is spilling over into
her business, and she is bursting with new ideas and seeing new
possibilities.
Lately, she has begun exploring dating, too. We
can't wait to see what happens next.
