Karen is an inspiration
to all of us at Access the Edge. She has a great husband of over
twenty years, two successful, grown sons, and a career as an art
director for a growing company. Her many talents as a graphic artist,
coach, and course leader have been an immense contribution, and
so it has been a real treat to support her in achieving one of her
dreams.
Through the interview process, she
discovered how much she wanted a home to call her own. This was
a complete shock to her, because she had decided long ago that
she didn't want the responsibility of being a home owner. She "thought" she
wanted the freedom to pick up and go at a moment's notice.
Once she got past what her head was
telling her and let her heart speak, she saw that what she REALLY
wanted was to create a great space for entertaining friends. She
envisioned planning intimate dinners, cooking delicious meals, and
creating an environment where stimulating conversations take place.
Karen's curiosity took over, and she
began to dream about how HER place would look and what it would
feel like to live there. She cut pictures out of magazines to create
a collage showing all the elements of her "dream home".
She shared her dream with her husband
who supported her one hundred percent in making her dream come
true. They began house-hunting and shortly thereafter, they purchased
a "fixer-upper" condo. Karen watched decorating shows,
picking out paint colors, moldings, and flooring for her home.
She bought new furniture. Every day, she envisioned entertaining
friends and family, curling up with a book on her brand new sofa,
and cooking her favorite dishes in the space that she created.
There Were Bumps in the Road
The transition didn't go smoothly.
Complications arose, causing delays in closing escrow. Karen retreated
into herself, and her energy flagged as months went by without resolution.
Long-term health issues re-surfaced and she ended up spending several
days in the hospital fighting off pneumonia. The doctors told her
that she was severely anemic. This was Karen's low point. She felt
alone, afraid, and uncertain about the future.
That's when Karen reached out to her
community of Access the Edge friends, who stepped in to be strong
for her when she couldn't be strong for herself. They supported
her and stood by her through the hard times. They believed in her
dream and kept it alive for her when she was ready to give it up.
They focused their love, intention, and creative energy on having
Karen win in the matter of having what she wants for her life.
Things Began to Change
Karen started seeing a nutritional
immunologist, who helped her to start conquering her anemia and
other health issues. As her health improved, Karen's energy and
zest for life returned.
Miraculously, the seemingly impossible
impasse with the escrow cleared up, and Karen received the go-ahead
to move in. "This just didn't seem possible", she told
us later. "Before participating in the seminars and without
the support of my community of friends, this never could have happened."
The day finally came for Karen's move.
Her Access the Edge community, along with friends and family, assembled
to transform a shabby space into a delightful, warm, and welcoming
retreat. In less than a month, the transformation was complete
and she invited friends over for a move-in celebration. "I'm still
in shock", she told us. "I can't believe I'm really here.
And it all turned out like I pictured it. I pinch myself sometimes.
I wanted a beautiful place to live and now, I have it! It just
fulfills something in my soul."
Karen hasn't had a chance to put her
culinary skills to use in her new home yet. She's barely finished
unpacking. She tells us she won't REALLY feel at home until she
has actually cooked a meal. Isn't it lucky that she has a husband
and many friends who love to eat? [read more about Karen's experience]
